Considered a companion volume to his book "The Snow Leopard", this is written as a discourse for conserving the last of a vanishing species, whose extinction Matthiessen laments as nothing less than an indictment of mankind. Travelling to Russia with a conservation team, he traces the Tiger's origin in history and culture. One of the very few true First Editions, this copy Signed by Peter Matthiessen, obtained on visit to the author's home, at The Hamptons, New York in 2010. Now scarce, this copy clean and bright, DJ, Fine.
