Very first ascent of an 8,000 meter peak, Annapurna, was accomplished by this French expedition in 1952. One of the great landmarks in mountaineering (Neate: H74). Above all, Annapurna is a thrilling story of exploration, and of multitudes of hardships overcome. Their team found and mapped their way to the base of the peak. Next steps were to find the best route, and then to climb it. However, ultimate success came with permanent loss. Cost paid is dramatically told, building intensity to the end.
