(Xvi), 336 pp, large folding map (with short tear), frontispiece and 39 other illustrations. One of the best primary source exploration and travel accounts of the New Zealand Alps. Original blue cloth with gilt vellum label inlaid on upper front board, gilt lettering to spine a bit faded. Hinges holding, starting in places, otherwise internally bright. A very good copy, over 120 years old. Inscribed by the Author on Half-Title page to Mr. and Mrs. Roberts "for patience during work at the field office". Also Signed by politician Thomas 'Tom' Seddon (son of NZ Prime Minister Richard Seddon) on half-title page, and on last Contents page (Xiii). Signed by author, association inscription. No DJ, VG.
